Why Are All Dating Apps So Like Each Other?

5 January 2019

If you’ve been single for a while, you’ve probably done the rounds on a fair few dating apps. There’s the big ones 🍆—Tinder, Bumble, OKCupid and Grindr—but plenty of smaller, niche models that have cropped up. In your attempts to get lucky 🍀, you might have tried your luck on all of them.

After a while, things start to feel a bit eerie 😨, don’t you think? It’s not just the same faces that start cropping up again and again 👬 (yikes!), but you find yourself on autopilot when it comes to finding your next match: sign in with Facebook, swipe 👈, swipe 👉, match, message 📳, consider meeting up with them 🤔, either ghost them or get ghosted 👻… repeat process until victorious 🏆.

Even those that claim to be ‘different’ end up being pretty much the same. So what’s the deal? Why are all of these apps so similar to one another and what is this doing to our dating game 🎮?

Why is this an issue?

Is it really such a big deal if all our dating apps follow the same format 🤷‍♂️? We certainly think so! In fact, here are just some of the ways this could be ruining your chances:

Variety is the spice of life 🔥
Being single is a great time to explore your options, meet new people 👋 and figure out what you’re looking for. For some people that means having an active social life full of dates 🍸 with different people, all involving minimal commitment, while others are simply looking to satisfy their more carnal needs on the down-low 💋. Some may even want a bit of both 🏳️‍🌈! It’s hard to get true variety out of your dating life with ten different apps that are all more or less the same 👬.

Keep your socials separate 🤳
While we’re all used to signing into all manner of apps and websites with our Facebook account 📱 for ease of access (cheeky 😉!), there are plenty of people who’ve gone off the social media giant and maybe don’t want their entire private lives connected to it 🤷‍♀️. This also lets you create an identity that’s separate from your ‘real life’. No, we’re not giving you permission to catfish people 😺🐟. But opening up the gateway 🚪 for your one-night stand to stalk your Instagram for the next month maybe isn’t the vibe 🚫.

All aboard the shame train! 🚊
Everyone knows that people use Tinder, Bumble and pretty much every other dating app in the world to hook up with strangers, right 👍? Yet for some reason, it’s treated like some big secret 🙊. Mainstream apps’ refusal to address the idea that most people aren’t looking for marriage and babies just yet 👰👶 can cause a whole lot of awkwardness 😬. If it’s not obvious from the get-go that you’re not necessarily looking to be speaking to that person in 12 hours time, it can be pretty uncomfortable thing to explain!

How is Tapdat different?

To put it bluntly, the whole idea of Tapdat is to get you bumping uglies ASAP 😛. It’s the perfect addition to your ever-growing collection of dating apps and can help you mix things up again! We use an icons-based system to display exactly what you’re in the mood for, so there’s no ambiguity ✌. Our whole system is designed to get you off 🍾 (the app) in the quickest time possible, instead of messaging back and forth for weeks to no avail 😩. Sign up is done in seconds using just your name, email address and age. It’s quick and super-easy, just like… actually no, we won’t shame you like that 😂!

You know the excited feeling of getting takeaway delivered to your door 😋? Tapdat basically feels like that, but with people. And you don’t pay for them, because that’d be questionable…
